How it works

Four questions. Plain answers.

Travel data is supposed to be the easy part. We built CheckInSIM around the four questions every traveler actually asks — and refuse to make any of them harder than they need to be.

1 · What do I buy? 2 · How do I install it? 3 · Is it working? 4 · What if it isn't?
Question 1

What do I buy?

Pick your destination on the website (or just message us on WhatsApp). We show you a few plans and recommend the one that fits the trip — typically 10 GB for 30 days covers most two-week trips with maps, transit apps, restaurant searches, and the occasional video call home.

Plans start from €9. We use Airalo as the carrier network — they have direct deals with SoftBank and NTT DOCOMO in Japan, T-Mobile in the US, EE in the UK, and so on. Same network as the locals, paid for in EUR before you land.

You don't sign up. You don't create an account. You don't download an app. You buy once and it arrives in WhatsApp.

Question 2

How do I install it?

The moment payment lands, we send a single WhatsApp message with one button: Install my eSIM. Tap it from the phone you'll travel with.

What happens next depends on your phone:

  • iPhone XS or newer — you tap, iOS opens the eSIM setup screen, you confirm, done. Apple's "direct install" flow.
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer / Pixel 3 or newer — most modern Android phones support direct install too. We try that first; if your phone doesn't, we instantly drop to a QR code or manual setup. We never claim Android-direct-install always works — because it doesn't, and pretending otherwise is how people end up stranded at airports.
  • Desktop browser — we show a QR code. You scan it with the phone you'll travel with. Same install screen.

The whole flow is built around one big primary button, with QR and manual fallbacks visible-but-secondary. If anything looks weird, you tap the WhatsApp link at the bottom and we're already in the chat.

Question 3

Is it working?

Two checkpoints, both on WhatsApp:

  • After install — we ask "Did the eSIM appear in your phone settings?" with three buttons. Yes / Not yet / I'm stuck. If you tap Yes, we move on to activation. If you tap Not yet, we wait. If you tap I'm stuck, we escalate.
  • After arrival — when you land, we send a reminder to turn on data roaming for the new line. That's the one step travelers most often forget. We walk you through it screen-by-screen if needed.

You can also ask us anytime — "How much data do I have left?" — and we check Airalo's records and reply with the number. No app, no portal, just the same chat.

Question 4

What if it isn't working?

You message us. We've already got your order, your device, your install state — no repeating yourself.

Common situations and how we handle them:

  • "I tapped install and nothing happened" — we check your device type and resend with a fresh link, or fall back to QR.
  • "It installed but there's no internet" — almost always a roaming setting. We talk you through it.
  • "My phone says No Service" — we check Airalo's status, confirm carrier coverage at your location, and either fix it or process a refund.
  • "I need a new install link, I'm on a different phone" — we send a fresh single-use link.

If we can't fix it, we refund you. We don't make refund a fight — if your phone can't activate the eSIM, the money comes back.
